Education and Experience

.

After completing my BA in Psychology with a certificate in Human Services from Trinity Western University, I attended Seattle Pacific University for my master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. During my training, I spent two years providing counseling services at a community mental health center, where I counseled individuals, couples and families facing a variety of challenges. I have worked with children as young as three years old, adolescents, young adults, adults and individuals in their nineties. Previously, I worked with families in different  settings and contexts, which allows me to bring those skills and the knowledge into my work as a therapist.

I was born and raised in Guatemala, where I earned my Degree in Teaching with emphasis in Home-Economics. Soon, after completing my training, I came to the United States and have lived in Whatcom since 1996. I have been married to my wonderful husband since nineteen ninety nine and together have two daughters. In the Spring of 2012, we welcomed our dog Tolly into our home and for 7 years we got to make great memories with her. As family, we love spending time together and appreciate the beauty that surround us.

I hold a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a certified PREPARE/Enrich facilitator and trainer, Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1, certified facilitator for Fortaleciendo Familias, certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator and a Child Mental Health Specialist. I am trained in EMDR, EFT and Perinatal Mental Health.

Family Therapy

Individuals are greatly influenced by their own family. Each family is a system that functions to support each of its members. There are times in life when families go through transitions that can be complex to navigate. Some transitions, can upset the functioning of the family as a unit. Whether a new member has joined the family through birth, adoption, marriage or a member has departed due to divorce, separation, going to college or death, it requires all the members in the family to make some adjustments.

I am passionate about family work that leads to improved communication and creates a supportive athmosphere. It is possible that your family is not functioning at its best right now. However, family therapy can help you and the family members to explore, to develop and to become a thriving unit with members who love and support each other unconditionally.
